IDEA OF THE DAY: Self Education

“Learning is the beginning of wealth.  Learning is the beginning of health. Learning is the beginning of spirituality. Searching and learning is where the miracle process begins.

Formal education will make you a living, but self-education will make you a fortune!” – Jim Rohn

With that being said what I want to do is list a bunch of books that I have been recommend from very successful people, Billionaires, Multi-Millionaires, Millionaires.  These are the books that are always coming up when these very successful people recommend reading books.   Its almost scary how often the same books are recommended.  I have always been interested in the books that people read, to me books are like teachers.  Note this list I have spent 2 years gathers, so without further ado here it is

1.Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

2.Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz

3.How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

4.Winning Through Intimidation by Robert Ringer

5.Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

6.Influence by Robert Cialdini PhD

ACTION by Robert Ringer

First off this Book is AMAZING!

I am really getting alot out of reading a book a week and I suggest it to everyone if they can find the time.  Anyway Robert Ringer’s book are very practical and I have learned alot from them.

Of all the quote on quote success guru’s Ringer’s writing really meshes.  I don’t know why it just does.  So thanks Dan Kennedy and Jay Abraham for bringing Ringers work to my attention.  I actually Today just ordered his other book million dollar habits.

He starts off the book by saying

“Nothing Happens until something moves” – Albert Einstein

And you know what that makes sense.  There is a saying that an average idea acted upon is better than 1000 great ideas never acted upon.  Lots of people have great ideas most people don’t act on them.  The people that did are the movers and shakers of the world like Richard Branson and Larry Page.

In the later chapters he covered the law of averages and he explained in a way that made sense.  He says that everyone knows of the law of averages but many people do not use it.

Like all the Robert Ringer books it’s just alot of commonsense, but it’s so much commonsense that you never take the time to think about it and that is really what this book does.  Action Produces Results.  Not Meditation or the Secret.

This is a book that I am going to read and reread because it is above all inspiring and motivational.  I don’t want to give away too much but here are some of the quotes from the book

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the one you did.” – Mark Twain

“Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness with out action.” – Benjamin Disrali

“Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day.  Do it! I say. Whatever you want to do, do it now! There are only so many tomorrows.” – Michael Landon

and Finally

“Action is life – and life is meant to be lived.” – Robert Ringer

This is part 2 of what I learned from Eben Pagan.  Check Out Pt 1 Here

Money isn’t Real

Money has no intrinsic value meaning that there is nothing backing money. Focusing on Money doesn’t build wealth. We need to focus on Value.  Alot of what Eben teaches is all about creating value which he does through information products.

Moving the Free Line

All of us as humans have justice mechanism.  Meaning that we are constantly worried about things being fair.  We are very worried about getting ripped off.

There was an interesting experiment done with two people.  Person A was given $100 dollars and the choice of how to split the money up.  Person B decided whether or not they got money.  When person A split the money 50/50 person B agreed 100% of the time and both people left the experiment with $50.  However when person A got clever and decided that he would split the money up $80 dollars for himself and $20 for person B.  Person B would say No a certain percentage of the time and neither person would leave the room with any money.  The people who ran this experiment were baffled, logic would say that person B would just take the $20.

That’s not the way it works, as humans we hate to see the other person get the better deal so much that we are willing to forfeit our profit.  Eben says that a lot of us sabotage our own success by doing this.  Eben says that by learning to love getting the short end of the stick you can become very wealthy.  Giving away $1,000 of value and then asking for $100 back.

I just finised reading Robert Ringer’s book To Be Or Not To Be Intimidated and all I can say is Wow.  I would give it a 9/10.This book was recommended to me by Dan Kennedy and Yanik Silver.  Both have this book in there top 10 book list and these are guys who read alot. The only thing I didn’t like about was that he drags out the stories of his real estate deals.

Anyway this book I thought was packed full of gems and is another book that really gets you thinking.   Here are some quotes from the book

“Theory of Reality, which states: Reality is neither the way you wish things to be nor the way they appear to be, but the way they actually are. Either you acknowledge reality and use it to your benefit, or it will automatically work against you.”

“Mortality Theory:  Given that your time on earth is limited, it makes good sense to aim high and move fast”

And my favorite. The Leap Frog theory which is something I have seen very success people do.  Truth is everyone is waiting for someone to appoint them to become and expert.

“Leapfrog Theory, which states: No one has an obligation-moral, legal, or otherwise – to “work his way up through the ranks.” Every human being possesses an inalienable right to make a unilateral decision to redirect his career and begin operating on a higher level at any time he believes he is prepared to do so.

A little Background on Eben Pagan.  He is one of the the few in the internet marketing industry how actually made his money selling non-How to Make Money Stuff first.

Who Is He? He is an information marketer/entrepreneur famous for starting and owning Double Your Dating.com.  I believe I heard him say that it does around 25 million dollar a year business that employ around 50 people and is 100% virtual.

Area of Expertise? Marketing, Information Marketing, Time Management, Business Development

Education? College Dropout/ Self-Taught

Previous Jobs? Manual Labor Copper smith, Real Estate Agent

Products? Guru Mastermind, Wake Up Productive, Ignition, Get Altitude, Guru HomeStudy Course, SelfMade Wealth

Eben is one of my mentors and I have learned an absolute ton from him I do not even know where to begin.  So Ill start with a first things I learned from him a little over a year ago

1.Speed Of Implementation

A Research done by college about success showed that the one key factor for success was success was the Speed of Implementation.  Which is the time between when you learn something and you put it into action.  All successful people implement quickly.  This Idea alone is the reason why I have this blog.  I have adopted this as one of my own philosophies I can already see that it is making a difference.  The minute I heard that you should have a personal blog that day I registered this domain name and began setting up this blog.   Now I am not saying that I am perfect at this but I have noticed that being conscious of this has helped me so far.

2.The Road to Success is Not Obvious its Counter Intuitive

Eben Pagan makes the analogy that business is very similar to Carnival Games meaning that you can win once you know the trick which is not obvious.

This is the way most people think: How do I figure out how to get 1,000,000 people  to give me 1 dollar?  I know I have, you sit there scheming.  If I invent this then I can get all these people to give me MONEY and then I will Have One Million Dollars

The New Mindset: How Do I give 1,000 dollars of value away for free to 1 million people and ask 10 dollars in return.

Counter Intuitive to give first, Eben says this alone is responsible for his success.

Doberman Dan: The Kitchen Table Entreprenuer

I spent the last few days reading over and studying the wealth of free information on Dan Gallapoo website DobermanDan.com.  If you are interested in direct response marketing, copywriting, or being able to start a multi-million dollar business from you kitchen table for less than $200 dollars then you are going to want to check out his website.

I have become very weary when people teach how to make money stuff.  But I will tell you a couple of reasons why I like Dan’s Website

  • Its Free (The information is much better than 99% of paid products)
  • He actually has made millions of dollars selling to the bodybuilding niche – information and supplements and not selling to the how to make money crowd.  I found one of his online info products here.   He actually said that out of the whole internet marketing guru crowd only about 10% have actually made their money selling non-how to make money products.  (If you don’t know that whole crowd consider yourself better off, most of them are charlatans)
  • He mentored under the great GARY HALBERT! Gary Halbert has become one of my idols and is the real deal.  You should check out his website thegaryhalbertletter.com if you have not already.
  • Its entertaining and easy reading.
  • Much like Tim Ferriss is focus is on building business to create the lifestyle that you want.

Anyways check out Dan’s site and Gary Halbert’s site

Here are some of the post I really liked

What I am Reading 2/17

For 2010 I am trying to read two books a week.  I think reading is very valuable and allows you to get a variety of perspectives on life rather than just your own.  The fact that someone puts all their life lessons into a book and sells it for under 20 dollars is  an absolute steal.   Often the biggest homes have the biggest library’s.   Last week the two books that I read was 1.Crush It by Gary V. and Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi.  Both were very good reads and I would recommend them anyone looking for an advantage.

Anyways last night I read The Instant Millionaire by Mark Ficher.   It was a quick read it took me only an hour and half to read.  I thought it was excellent.  If you have read alot of the self help literature (which I have read before)like Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich, The Richest Man In Babylon, The Magic of Thinking Big then this will be nothing new.  However I think the way the information was presented is very easy.  It is presented in a story of a young man visiting an old millionaire and the millionaire tells him the secrets to becoming wealthy.

The Story makes it both entertaining and easy to understand. Go to amazon and check it out.

Action Steps:

1. I am going to review my goals daily

2.I am going to experiment with Self-Suggestion

Napoleon Hill

The man’s name is Napoleon Hill and he wrote a little book in 1937, Think and Grow Rich.  Story has it that Andrew Carnegie one of the world’s richest men, asked Napoleon Hill to study and model 500 of the worlds most successful people such as Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, John D. Rockfeller and determine a philosophy of success.  He did and put his finding into two books the Law of Success and Think And Grow Rich.  Carnegie’s vision was that these teachings would change the world and be taught in schools around the world.

Well that didn’t happen, virtually none of Napoleon Hill’s teachings/philosophies are taught in schools.  But these teachings are constantly being referred to by Millionaires and Multi-Millionaires who credit this book to changing their life.

Jim Rohn recommends that you read it.

John Carlton reads it 4 times a year.

Dan Kennedy has studied all of Napoleon Hill’s work

Bob Proctor credits Think And Grow Rich to his success and states that he reads and rereads it constantly

John Reese constantly cites this book as a must read

Tony Robbins recommends this book

Countless other millionaires also recommend this book and if you have studied self improvement you to have heard of this book.

I am now re-reading this book again and will continue to read it over and over again to try to absorb the principles.  You can find it on the internet for free and I suggest that you read it immediately if you have not already and if you have read it,  I suggest you read it again.  There has to be more to this book.
